Graduation day saw the sad departure of Angel from Buffy's life, although thankfully it was less dramatic than the usual departure of many Vampires that make their exit, it was however still a sad day for all Buffy fans. Taking away such a major character from any series is always a huge risk which Joss was very willing to take.
"Angel" was talked about as early as the beginning of the second series of Buffy, This new show takes both Angel and Cordelia to the city of Los Angeles. Cordelia, after having faced the bankruptcy of her father, seeks fame and fortune as an aspiring actress. Meanwhile, Angel is joined by Doyle who is half human and half demon. In the darker recesses of LA Angel feels compelled to once more fight the forces of evil in an attempt to make up for all the wrongs he committed as the Vampire Angelus. Setting up business as a Private investigator Angel faces a combination of monsters, Demons and humans who frequent this part of town.
During this series we will also be finding out more about Angel's Vampiric past over the last couple of centuries. There has been much speculation and dismay over details of the new love interest for Angel since his departure from Sunnydale. Kate played by Elizabeth Rohm is bound to upset many of the fans who have followed the Buffy/Angel relationship over the past three seasons. Can we expect riots, Screaming, gnashing of teeth and boycotting by these fans? I think so don't you?
Big question that was on everyone's lips was if the show would achieve anything like the success that Buffy has risen to. Personally, I had views both for and against this one. We have been expected to accept that the underlying love story of Angel and Buffy will be no more. We got the odd crossover of characters to each show. Time and the fans have shown us all that Angel has risen above all expectations. We all still hope that Angel will return to Sunnydale and continue his love affair with Buffy. But for now I personally wish the show, the cast and the show creator, Joss Whedon the very best.
We are now into Angel's 5th Season and sadly the WB has announced it will be the last on their network at least! To fight for Angel please see the Saving Angel Campaign page. We won't go out without a FIGHT!
