Darla an Anglo-Saxon derivation meaning "Dear One", was a member of the Brethren of Aurelius, in the early years of her human life in the 16th Century she made her living as a prostitute. On her death as a human the Master made a visit to her and Darla was born into the vampire world. She is a very flippant and disobedient Vampire, the master's favourite, when she met Liam he was at a bar getting drunk she waited around in the alley for him and turned the once drunken and lazy Liam into the evil Angelus, they remained together for many years, she taught him, loved him and made him into the most feared vampire of all. Together they wreaked havoc on Europe. Darla however brought the gypsy girl to Angel which for her had fatal repercussions, as the gypsies returned Angel's soul to him and Darla although she loved him rejected him as he was no longer evil.
After arriving in Sunnydale she tries to bring Angel back into their fold along with her and the Master, she even goes as far as feeding of Buffy's mother and making it look like it was Angel that did this. She eventually fails and she shows up in the middle of Angel and Buffy fighting. Hoping that after she kills the Slayer he will return, she tries to shoot Buffy just as she is about to Angel stakes her and kills his own sire.
After being raised in the last episode of season one of Angel Darla has had a great impact on Angel, firstly showing herself in his dreams and then following him and eventually confronting him. After we find out that she is in fact no longer a vampire and is in fact human she only has one thing that drives her, to live forever no matter what the cost is. And when Drusilla comes to town she achieves this goal, what will happen next?, only time will tell.
Ohh time did tell, after finally admitting to herself that she was gong to die and giving up the obsession of finding a Vampire to turn her once again she went to Angel. She knew that he would be there for her however Wolfram had other ideas and brought in Dru, holding Angel down and making him watch as Dru turned Darla once again into the undead. Angel then determined to find Darla before she rises finds them at a old abandoned nursery Dru making the preparations for Darla, he however is too late and both Darla and Dru escape Darla once again a Vampire.
They are together once again and their sole aim is to bring their family back as it was Angel alongside them, they however do not realise how strong Angel is. He sets them both on fire not killing them as Darla opens the fire hydrant and extinguishes the flames, Dru leaves and Darla runs to Lindsay it takes her time to recover but she does eventually coming face to face one again with her Angel. This time though things actually go as she wanted to, they spend a night together however it does not give Angel that one true moment of happiness and he remains with soul in tact. H warns Darla that if he ever sees her again he will kill her. She leaves.....
Darla did indeed return to LA, together with a very large bump, as legend goes it is impossible for two Vampires to have have children. In fact it is supposedly impossible for one Vampire to have a child, however Darla return pregnant with Angel's baby. They find out that the child is in fact a human and a boy, as the child is human his soul affects Darla deeply, she knows that she will in the end when he has been born kill him.
After Angel and Darla are told that she cannot give birth and the child will die they try everything to not let this happen, but it is no use. After Holtz follows them they end up in the alley with Darla in labour she knows there is nothing she can do and tells Angel to look after their child, she then stakes herself to allow her son to live.
Some months on Darla appears once more as a ghost to help Connor make choice, this is the first time that he has seen his mother, and will probably be the last.....
Darla: "Angel, I've seen it now - everything you're going through,
everything you've gone through. - I felt it. I felt how you care. The way no one's ever
cared before - not for me. That's all I need from you."
Angel: "That's not enough."
Darla: "It is."
Angel: "How could the powers allow you to be brought back and dangle a second
chance and take it away like this?"
Darla: "Maybe this is my second chance."
Angel: "To die?"
Darla: "Yes. To die - the way I was supposed to die in the first place."
