Cordelia, "It's coming, the beginning of a new world."

Angel and Connor fall to his knees and Angel says, "Oh my God. You're beautiful."

Continued
Angel and Connor are kneeling as the woman picks up a blanket and wraps it around herself. She thinks everything is wonderful but Angel thinks it's unworthy of her. She goes over to Cordelia lying on the floor and thanks her for protecting her. Connor tells her Cordelia only wanted to give her life.

The woman says it's all so perfect, but Angel says it isn't because he went there to kill her and he should be punished. He offers her his sword and bows his head waiting for the blow. She tells him she can feel his suffering and pain and it's all going to end, then Angel looks up and she's gone.

Main
The Hotel office
Fred is trying to tidy up the office. There's a noise and Fred asks what it is. Lorne tells her it's only the buzz saw, Wesley and Gunn are dismembering Skip in the basement. Fred thinks there's been a lot of dismembering going on lately.

Fred, who is edgy because Angel is going to kill Cordelia, asks why Cordelia had to be the beast masters' vessel. Lorne gets very confused about who Fred is talking about as she goes through the possibilities of what may have happened. Then Fred asks if Angel would really kill Cordelia. Lorne says he would do it to save the world.

Fred is upset, then suddenly changes, grabs a knife and rushes out to the foyer. This confuses Lorne again, until he sees she's gone to stop Connor who just entered the hotel carrying a knife. She tells him to drop it, but he says he was only putting it away. Then she asks him if he's still "evilish, because I'm confused."
Angel calls to them and tells them it's ok, Connor's with him. They turn to find Angel standing beside one of the sofas on which Cordelia is lying. Fred says, "Oh my God she's not…." and Angel finishes the sentence saying; "No she's not dead. She's just resting. She's in a peaceful place."
But Fred was actually about to say Cordelia wasn't pregnant any more. Wesley asks if this means Angel was too late and Lorne guesses it wasn't a "chubby little cherub."
Angel says with a smile, "Not exactly."
Gunn says, "But you killed it. It's dead, right?"
Angel tells them he tried to, then goes and sits on the stairs with his head in his hands. Connor says, "You've got to stop torturing yourself Dad. He was like this all the way back in the car."
Wesley asks if it escaped and Angel says it disappeared, "and it didn't even say goodbye."
Fred, Wesley, Gunn and Lorne realise the evil wasn't a baby. Fred asks what the evil looked like, if it had three heads etc, but Connor tells her it had two legs and one head. Lorne guesses it was green, but Angel says it was mocha coloured and they need to find her. The others agree and go to get armed ready to kill her. Angel tells them they're not going to kill her, they're going to worship her. Connor tells them they'll go nuts when they meet her.

Wesley tells Angel that he's under some form of enchantment and Angel agrees. Then Wesley points out that the thing could control people even before it was born. He warns Angel of the horrors and evil they've faced because of it, then the woman's voice says, "must be rectified."

The woman is standing at the doors to the garden. Angel and Connor fall to their knees instantly, followed by Lorne, Fred and Gunn, then finally Wesley. She says she wants to help if they'll have her and Wesley asks what she wants them to do.

Cordelia's room
Fred says, "What an honour."
The woman says she's the one who is honoured by Cordelia (who is lying in the bed) and by all of the others and that she's happy to be back. Connor asks when she was here before. The woman says she was here before time began and before man walked the earth. Some with power became corrupted and those that could left the earth to the demons. Then man emerged. She says as she goes to Connor, she had to find a miracle to come back. She tells Angel it was through him and Darla that she had her miracle. When Lorne sent Angel through the trial to save Darla, he earned a life, and that life was Connor.

Angel asks if Cordelia will wake up and the woman says that if they take hold of the world and win the battle then she might wake up. They are going to destroy evil one demon at a time. Angel says, "Finally."

Bowling alley
Some vampires are bowling with severed heads. One of them complains that the other told them LA was going to be a playground, but it had all gone wrong. Then Angel and the gang appear and they all fight. The woman and Fred sit down and she asks Fred what she should be called. Fred realises she doesn't have a name. Then one of the vampires cuts her with his claws and Angel and the others run outside after him, but he falls against a guy and digs his claws into the mans chest. Angel stakes the vampire in front of a crowd of people.

The onlookers are scared until they see the woman. They are all in awe of her. Then the guy who had the claws dug in his chest picks up a knife and tries to stab the woman calling her a monster. Angel stops him then starts to beat him. He almost kills the man when the woman stops him. She then strokes the side of the mans face and tells the others there will always be people who need their pity.

The hotel foyer
Gunn and Wesley are suggesting names for the woman who is sitting on one of the sofas. Fred comes down the stairs carrying the woman's shirt. She's upset because she can't get the stain out and she blames herself for the woman being attacked. The woman says it's no ones fault and that feeling anything is wonderful. Fred runs off to clean the shirt and Gunn says it's best to let her get the job done. The woman tells Wesley and Gunn their love for Fred should bring them together not force them apart.

Connor goes over to the woman to check on her wound, but it has healed. She walks into the garden following the smell of the jasmine there. She tells Angel, who is sitting on the steps, the jasmine is, "So beautiful. So lonely, just like you."
He is upset because he feels he let her down by almost killing the man who tried to stab her. He says he would have killed him if she hadn't stopped him. She tells him there is no shame in protecting her. He is worried he'll shame her again because he's so happy she is there, Angelus could be freed. She tells him evil will be banished by the good they do, even the evil within him. He wonders if it's possible to eradicate all evil, and he can't believe it when she says that she has faith in him, and all her warriors, she will be at their side wherever they go. As she speaks we see scenes of the gang fighting.

The hotel foyer
A report on the television tells about the reduction in crime over the last week.

Lorne comes down the stairs and says he has a surprise for the woman, then takes her upstairs.

Fred comes in to show them the shirt. The others think it looks brand new and she says it is, she had to buy a new one. Then she bursts into tears because the woman isn't about and that makes her feel bad.

The woman's room
Lorne has decorated a room for her and put jasmine in a vase. She loves the room and Lorne is thrilled. He leaves her alone, and then she asks Connor, who is passing the door, why he's upset. He says he finally knows why he was created, to bring her there, but he feels he shouldn't be so happy and he doesn't deserve the honour. She says she knows, she's watched him and he deserves all the happiness she can bring him.

Connor asks why him. She says that before he was born she chose Connor as her father. He tells her his father is the champion, not him, but she says, "Everything has its season."

Fred enters with the new shirt. She tells the woman she had tried to clean the other shirt, had scrubbed it until her fingers bled, but she couldn't get it clean. Then she looks up at the woman. The woman's face isn't the beautiful one they have seen since she appeared, but a maggot ridden, rotting thing. Fred is obviously shocked and the woman asks if there is something wrong. Fred, thinking very quickly, starts to cry. When the others come in and tell Fred it's ok, the woman is right there, Fred says she had just thought about what it felt like when the woman wasn't there. The woman says she's not going anywhere. Then Fred leaves, still crying, telling them she is going to count her blessings and take stock.

Cordelia's room
Fred talks to Cordelia about when Lorne had his brain sucked. She tells her that this is worse than the evil he saw because they don't know to fight back, not even Angel. Then Angel appears behind her and says he knows what she's thinking, that the lies melt away when you look into the woman's eyes. He still can't believe he tried to kill her. Angel says it all feels like a dream. Fred asks him if he's noticed they all follow what the woman says without asking any questions, but he says it's good not to have to question.

The hospital
Fred is looking for the man who attacked the woman. He has been transferred to the psychiatric ward. She goes into his room and tells him she needs to talk to him about what he saw because she saw the same thing. The man is crying and tells her to leave him alone. He asks if the woman touched her, then turns his head to show his face where the woman had touched him. His face is scarred and rotting. He tells Fred not to let the woman touch her. He then asks her to untie him so that they can kill the creature and that she's been called for that duty. Fred's telephone rings and as she rushes out, the man shouts after her not to trust the woman.

The hotel
Strangers are going into the hotel as Fred gets back. Lorne tells her that the woman went for a walk and these people followed her back.

Fred goes to Wesley and tells him that she went to see the man in the hospital because she saw the same thing as he did, then tells him about the rotting flesh. Wesley says she did the right thing in going to him and that he'll help her. He walks away and whispers to Gunn, then goes up the stairs to tell the others, while Gunn tells Lorne. Fred goes to the weapons cabinet and takes out a crossbow then fires it at the woman. Angel jumps over the balcony and stops the bolt from hitting the woman, by taking the hit himself. Connor also jumps over the balcony and goes to help his father. Fred grabs Lorne and holds a knife to his throat so that she can escape. The woman tells her there is no escape; her love will follow her wherever she goes. The woman tells Angel to let Fred go because now isn't the time.

The road
Fred is driving along. She stops and starts crying.

The Hotel
Wesley can't believe Fred is evil. The woman tells them that she didn't want the others to see what happened but now they know what hatred can do to a person. Angel says they need to find Fred, as he gives the woman a bunch of jasmine. Lorne says he should have just let her cut his head off, it wouldn't have killed him. Angel thinks he should have seen it because she was acting peculiarly before. Wesley can't understand why Fred would want to go and see the man at the hospital, while Connor thinks the man used magic to change her. Angel says they have to find Fred and kill her. The woman says it may come to that, but they should try to help her and find out why she hates the woman. She tells them that they will look for Fred the next day because they will have more eyes.

A diner
Fred is sitting in the diner. The man behind the counter tells her she looks like she's lost her best friend and she says, "All of them."
There is a television on in the corner and the presenter tells the audience they have a special treat, and welcomes "Jasmine". The woman then starts to tell the viewers the story she told the others about the powers existing before man. As the people watch they fall to their knees in front of the television.

Fred walks out of the diner.

Rating and Comments:
This episode and the last episode Inside Out, give us a lot of information, or perhaps misinformation, about what has happened over the last couple of series. We find out how Connor came to be born, because Angel had earned a life by going through the trial to try to save the living Darla, and Connor was that life.

For the third episode in a row, free will is also a major topic. In this case, the only people with free will have had some exterior jolt that has made them see things clearly, the force seeming to be contact with Jasmines blood, while everyone else is under the power of a type of mass hysteria. This makes those `under the influence` susceptible to carrying out orders they wouldn't otherwise do. Even couched in the velvet tones of peace and harmony, Jasmine is marshalling her troops and giving them orders. She gives them what they want to hear, for example defeating all evil, and lets them go out and kill a few demons, but it all adds to her credibility in their eyes, thus allowing her to get what she wants in the long run.

There is also a lot of emphasis put on the jasmine growing in the garden, and the woman's liking for the plant. This may be just to show where the woman gets her name from, but it seems strange to me that she uses almost the same words as Drusilla uses when she sees the jasmine in the garden of the Sunnydale mansion for the first time (I Only Have Eyes For You).

Finally. Is it just coincidence that Jasmines true face is very similar to Vocah, the demon Wolfram and Hart summoned at the end of season 1 (To Shanshu in LA) to cut Angel's link to the PTB by giving Cordelia the multiple visions?
