Continued
Everyone stands staring at Cordelia who says, "I know it's a bit of a shock. I mean, nobody's more shocked than me. Ok, maybe him." as Connor stands beside her. Everyone looks at her.
Fred agrees she's shocked then Gunn points out that it's only been a few weeks. Cordelia says she hasn't been hiding away because she was ashamed, but because with everything that was going on, she didn't want to be a distraction. Lorne walks in and says, "Well. Put me on the short bus and send me off to cluelessville! A mystical pregnancy right under my beak and not even a tingle. Huh"

Wesley asks her how long she's known and Cordelia says she's known since shortly after they brought Angelus back. Gunn points out that that's only been a couple of weeks and she looks like she's more like eight months gone. Wesley tells them that the last time Cordelia was impregnated, she came to term overnight, but Cordelia doesn't like this comparison as she says that was a crawly evil thing and this is different. Fred says they should find out `what's in there', but Connor says they already know, it's their baby. Gunn congratulates Angel on being about to have a grandspawn. Connor says it's scary having a child and they can only joke about it because they don't like him, and they shouldn't have told the others. Cordelia tells them they don't understand, as they've never had a living being growing inside them and that she and her 'sweet baby' are connected. She says the baby will be born soon and they'll all see how good it is, then she turns her back on them all and we see her stomach as something very unnatural looking moves under the skin.

Opening credits

Main
A Fountain
A man is waiting for someone. He turns round and Gwen is standing there. She tells him to stop acting shifty, but he's worried that the people she's going up against are very powerful. She says she's going in with or without his help and she's not coming out without Lisa. They exchange envelopes, Gwen's containing security, blueprints and background. He's about to ask her out when she's struck by lightening and the guy runs away, scared.

The Hotel foyer
Fred, Gunn, Lorne and Wesley are in the hotel foyer. Fred wonders if they were too harsh, but Wesley says they were bound to skulk off into different corners. Gunn runs through the history of Angel, Connor and Cordelia. "Two vampires hook up and for the only time in vamp history they have a kid, our boy Connor. Then Connor grows up, knocks it out with Cordelia, a part demon and former higher being, and quick as you can say easy bake oven, there's a gigantic bun in hers. I don't think we were too harsh!"

Fred points out that when Connor tried to attack Angelus in the hotel Lorne's sanctuary spell stopped him. Wesley says that therefore Connor is at least part demon. Lorne says, "That was before my spell went all flopapolooza."
Fred says, "That could account for the whoosh factor." As she gestures with her hands to show an expanding stomach.
Gunn says, "It's not going to be that long before whoosh turns into pop."
Lorne replies, "Speaking of pop, don't you think our re-ensouled leader be part of this little confab?"
Angel comes out of his office. "Easy bake, flopapolooza, whoosh, pop. I don't skulk!" The latter said pointing at Wesley.

Angel has been thinking about the past few weeks and Angelus. He says some of them paid a higher price than others, then turning to Wesley he tells him Angelus didn't kill Lilah, and she was already dead when he found her. He then tells Wesley there was no excuse for what Angelus did, and that he's sorry for Wesley's loss.

Angel tells them that they have two jobs; they have to find out about Cordelia's pregnancy and they have to find the Beast's master. He then allocates tasks; Lorne has to go and see any contacts he has to get any information they may have, Fred and Wesley have to investigate the mystical pregnancy and Gunn is extra muscle in case anything untoward happens. Angel himself is going to piece together everything the beast's master said to him as Angelus to see if he can work anything out from that.

Just then Gwen walks in. Angel tells her it's a bad time for a social call, but she tells them there's a girl in trouble and she needs someone suave who can handle himself in a tight spot. Angel is about to say he's busy, but Gwen says she meant Gunn.

The top floor of the hotel
Cordelia has been looking for Connor and finds him sitting in one of the derelict top rooms. She tells him he can't let what the others said bother him. He isn't bothered about what they said, but about Cordelia. She told him Willow's magic was evil but she returned Angel's soul, but because of Cordelia Connor had nearly killed his father. She tells him he didn't kill him and everything is fine now. Everything is for a reason, from him being born to sinking Angel to the bottom of the sea, all leading to the birth of their child. He asks what the reason for him trying to kill Angel was, but Cordelia says it seemed to be the only way to protect their baby and now she knew she could count on him to protect them. She then tells him that before the baby is born she may ask him to do some things and that there will be a reason for it. He agrees but looks doubtful.

Gwen's apartment
Gunn is looking at some jade animals. Gwen tells him she brings one back each time she's away. He asks why she wanted him, and she tells him she needed a suave guy, but he doesn't believe her.

He asks what's so important that she needs his help. Gwen tells him there are two companies. One employed her to steal something from the other, but the second one kidnapped the daughter of the first company. Because of the original theft the first company can't go to the police, so it's up to her to get the girl back. He asks how they are going to get in and Gwen tells him they'll walk in through the front door.

A mansion
Gwen and Gunn are dressed up to the nines. They are going to a party at the mansion. Inside the doors are security and metal detectors. They get through the metal detectors, but alarms go off when the electronic imprint on their invitations appears to have been altered. Gwen tells the security guard that it's because she was struck by lightening, but the guard doesn't believe her. Gunn suggests they come back another time but she says she's getting in one way or another and starts to take off her long gloves. Gunn tells her to keep them on and calls out to the party host, then greets him in Japanese. When the host replies he tells him he used up his vocabulary in the greeting, but the host is impressed that he tried. Gunn pretends to have met him at a benefit the previous year and then gives him a box as a small gift. Inside is a jade tiger, one of Gwen's collection. The host is impressed, thanks them then walks away and the security guard asks them to leave. The host turns and invites them in so the security guard lets them pass and they enter.

The Hotel office
Fred and Wesley are looking through books on demon pregnancy. None of the books have any mystical pregnancies, just demon ones. Fred is grossed out by the thought of Connor and Cordelia getting together because Connor is Angel's son. Wesley says they were both lost and lonely and things happen when you're alienated from the people who care about you. Fred realises he's talking about him and Lilah. Wesley says, they were both on different sides of the same fight, but Fred says he hated Lilah, then realises from his expression that he didn't.

The Party
Gunn and Gwen walk through the room. Gwen asks how he knew so much about Japanese etiquette and Gunn tells her it's from watching samurai films. Then she tells him she has a secret and shows him the jade tiger in her pocket that she had stolen back from the host.

Angel's room
Angel is sitting in an armchair looking at some papers. Without looking up he tells Cordelia to come in. She enters, but is creeped out that he knew she was outside his door without her having to knock. He says he's kind of creeped out himself.

Cordelia asks is he's found anything but Angel says he's found nothing. He thinks the Beast was just a flunky, that stealing his soul, killing Lilah and murdering Manny were all done for a precise reason. Cordelia asks who did it if it wasn't the Beast. Angel tells her it was the beast's master. Cordelia says, "I'm his master. I'm his all-powerful master and I'm going to break into a guarded room, steal your soul from a safe, not by ripping it open but by using the combination. Then I'm going to hunt and kill Lilah right under this very roof. Sure. Evil geniuses live for that playing by fire stuff."
Angel tells her he's heard the beast's master inside his head and "he's insane enough to pull those kinds of stunts."
"When you say insane, you mean like diabolical?" asks Cordelia, a little disconcerted by Angel's comments.
"No, I mean like deluded and demented. He spoke to me in this cheesy self-important voice. I bet he doesn't even have a master plan. He's just making it up as he goes along."
Cordelia is now looking very concerned at what Angel's saying. Angel sees her expression and tells her not to worry, the master is bound to slip up and when he does he's dead.

The party
Gwen tells Gunn that the kidnappers are going to kill the child tonight. She wants him to grab the child when she causes a diversion. He grabs the child when Gwen knocks over a table, but Gwen says "Oh my God, someone's trying to hurt that little girl."

Gunn gets the girl away to another room, but is hit by a guard. Then he fights with the other guards that have arrived. He knocks them all out, then turns to the girl and tells her it's time to get her home. The girl tells him she is home and that her daddy is going to kill him. Gunn realises her name isn't Lisa.

Another part of the mansion
Gwen is breaking into the safe. Gunn walks up to her. He tells her there is no Lisa, but she says he hasn't enjoyed himself as much in a long time. He says it's because he thought he was doing good. She tells him LISA is an acronym for a weapon that is used by black ops to regulate body temperature and body chemistry. Gunn realises she needed him because Angels' lack of a heartbeat would have shown up on the scanners and he can't believe he took time out of the apocalypse for a theft. She tells him if the others need him they'll call. She wants him to continue helping her, but he says it's not the same. Gwen tells him he can keep the new suit, so he stays.

The hotel office
Angel is sitting at the desk with Wesley and Fred hovering about him, which is making him annoyed. He is writing out a passage about the Beast from the book that Lilah had found. It is in a form of script. He thinks he's managed to write it down from his photographic memory. Cordelia comes in just as he's finished. Angel puts the finished script down on the desk and Wesley starts to translate it. As he reads out the words Cordelia is preparing to knock Fred's coffee over it when Wesley reads out a totally meaningless passage. Cordelia pulls back from the coffee and Angel says he'll try again.

The mansion safe
Gwen gets the safe open and takes LISA out. She tells Gunn they should split up, but he refuses saying this time either they both get out or, seeing the heavily armed guards behind Gwen, neither of them do.

The hotel office
Angel finishes another translation, which again is meaningless, so he gives up. Just then Lorne enters with good news. He hasn't been able to find anything out about the Beast's master or the pregnancy, but the demon Angel sent him to has given him a ceremony that will return his abilities. Wesley offers to help, but Lorne tells them he has to do it alone. By the morning he'll be able to read her and the baby.

The mansion
The party host tells Gwen to put what she has stolen down, but she refuses. Gunn tries to talk her into giving it up, but again she refuses. The host tells them that in that case, they won't be leaving. Gunn tries again to get Gwen to give up the item but she says she won't give it up, then electricity pours from her and knocks out all the guards and the party host. Gunn knocks her over and the electricity stops. He helps her to her feet then tells her that she isn't stealing LISA for a client, she's stealing it for herself because she thinks it will fix her.

A dark factory
Lorne enters what looks like a deserted warehouse or factory. He sets up candles and prepares for the ceremony. Above him on a balcony, Cordelia is watching.

Gwen's apartment
Gunn puts the jade tiger back. She tells him they wouldn't have got into the party without his brains, but he just puts it down to too many films. She tells him the others have `done a real number on him` because he thinks he's only the muscle. She then asks him if he needs a pep talk and is relieved when he says he doesn't because it's not her field of expertise. She tells him she loved the job, but he doesn't believe her because she was willing to die for LISA. She tells him that she was because, although being a thief makes her a part of something, she would like to be normal and able to at least hold hands with someone.

Gunn asks her to show him how LISA works. She goes and lies on her bed and he puts LISA on the small of her back. When he touches her bare skin he gets an electric shock from her. LISA clamps on to her back and moves under her skin. Gunn asks her if she feels any different, but she says she doesn't. Then he touches her skin again and there's no shock. He runs his fingers over her back and asks her if she's never touched then she's never done anything else. They kiss, but she pulls back saying that LISA is a prototype and may switch off. Gunn points out that she's already brought him back to life once before, so she knows where his battery is if anything happens again. Then they kiss again.

The factory
Lorne is preparing for his ceremony. He starts to sing something similar to a Gregorian chant as Cordelia walks up behind him with a wicked looking knife drawn, ready to stab him. Just as she gets near, the lights go on and she turns to find Angel standing behind her. When she turns in the other direction, Wesley and Fred have guns aimed at her. Lorne takes the cloth-covered object he was using for the ceremony and uncovers it. It's a magic 8-ball. He says, "Has Cordelia been a bad, bad girl?" and the 8-ball shows `definitely` as it's reply.

Rating and Comments:
This was another great episode. It was good to see Gunn having such a central role as he has had a fairly limited role over the past few weeks. One thing I wasn't happy about was Gunn agreeing to continue with the crime for as little as a new suit. It felt a bit like a sell out of the characters otherwise high principals. However, after the time he's had recently with Fred over the Wesley situation, it was great to see him end up with Gwen.

And at last! Cordelia has been found out! From Angel's expression right from her first appearance, he knew something was up. It's difficult to tell if he knew she was the Beast's master all along, or if he picked that up later, but he must have known fairly early because of the way he goaded her into making a mistake. He must also have been behind the ceremony set-up because Lorne said Angel had sent her to the demon who gave him the ceremony.

It was good to see Angel back on top form, using his brain as opposed to his usual break heads now and ask questions later. And it was about time the player of the last few episodes, namely Cordelia, was herself played. The question now is, how long before Connor realises he's being played for a fool as well?
Rating 8/10 And I have to say how great it is to see Andy Hallett in the opening credits at last!
