We are in Angel’s Suite

Angel sits in his room, sketching obsessively pictures of The Beast. Someone knocks on his door it is Lorne, he brings him some O+. Angel tells him to just put it on the table.
Lorne sets the tray down and looks at the drawings. Angel tells him to leave the room and close the door. He is in full out brood mode but Lorne tries to entice Angel to come downstairs. But no luck.
Angel tells him he works better alone.

Lorne : “Oh, that’s it. I see. It’s all about you. Silly old Lorne,
thinking it was about saving the world from ending.
Welcome to the big leagues, Angel. You’re a champion.
You don’t get personal days.

Angel : “There’s nothing on this Beast, Lorne. I fought it once and it
nearly decapitated me with my own stake. It’s killed
hundreds of people that I couldn’t save and it keeps
showing up around my kid. My kid who’s..

Lorne :Not entirely un-making with the moves on the girl who
might have been?

Seems that the Cordy/Connor little liaison is bugging him more than he’ll let on.
Before leaving the room Lorne reminds him that there are other fish in the sea and that Connor is still his son.

Night – somewhere at on Oil Field

GWEN RAIDEN makes her way through the dark among the churning oil
derricks. She stops and looks around as if expecting someone but no one’s
there. She turns around and looks behind her.
“Miss Raiden ?”
She turns to find Mr. Ashet, a man clothed in African tribal dress, wearing
dark sunglasses, where there was no one moments before.
He wanted her to locate an extremely rare and powerful amulet. Gwen says she understands why he wants it considering the holy-roller Revelations party that is going on lately.
He takes off his glasses to reveal a set of inhuman eyes. They bore into
her. Gwen falters, then continues saying she is going on vacation to Tahiti.

Ashet : “You have no idea who I am, do you, Miss Raiden. Or of the
dire importance of recent events.

Gwen :”I know enough to go to Tahiti.

Ashet :”Well said. Perhaps then I won’t kill you for your…..

He suddenly screams and Gwen stumbles backward as a massive fist
punches through Ashet’s chest from behind. Gwen looks up to find The Beast
towering over her.

It smiles at her before hitting her with a blow that hurls her 50 feet.
She lands on the ground in a crumpled heap and watches as the Beast rips
its hand back out of Ashet. Brilliant white light streams from the gaping
hole in Ashet’s chest as he collapses to the ground. The Beast kneels down
over him, reaches into the blindingly bright hole and removes a small
metallic object from inside Ashet.

Holding the object in one hand, the Beast looks up at Gwen who removes
her gloves, preparing to do battle. Electricity arcs between her fingers but
when she gets to her feet, she finds the Beast is gone. Only the crumpled
body of Ashet remains.

Opening credit sequence.

Connor’s Apartment ; Morning

Connor sits in the window, listening to sirens race by down below as Cordelia stirs and wakes. She is sleeping on the floor, covered with a blanket. She left the bed to him but he couldn’t sleep without her he says. Cordelia reminds Connor that this isn’t his fault, but Connor ignores her. He wants to go to the hotel to see Angel. They need to find out if the group has found out anything new about The Beast. Cordelia tries to avoid making a decision, she doesn’t want him to know that Angel knows about them. She says they would have been told if any news was discovered about The Beast. She finally gets up, looks for a towel
and he’s right there with a towel for her, having crossed the room silently in an instant.
Connor starts to wonder where he got his super powers from , his super hearing, his ability to walk without making a noise. Cordy says they are both going a bit nuts, being cooped up together for two days.

Connor :”Because you won’t take me back to the hotel. They don’t
want me there, do they? Angel doesn’t want me there. It’s
because they think I’m connected to the Beast. It’s why
you don’t want me, either.

Cordelia :”Angel knows we slept together. That’s why you can’t go
back to the hotel.

Connor is shocked. He doesn’t believe they’ve done anything worng, but that doesn’t change how Angel feels about it. Cordelia says they hurt him. Her eyes suddenly go wide and she sees a flash of the Beast with screams of terror and agony in the background.
Connor asks if she had a vision ; what did she see.

Cordelia : “Nothing. I… I have to see Angel.

She puts on her shoes and grabs her coat. Connor shakes his head in
disgust.

Connor :”How do you know I’ll be here when you get back? Aren’t
you afraid I’m going to run off and join the demon?

Cordelia : “I trust you, Connor.

She walks past him and out the door.

The Hyperion – Lobby – Daytime

Gunn paces across the lobby, frustrated, while Fred researches.
He says he doesn’t trust Connor, he sent Angel to the bottom of the ocean. Fred tries to convince Gunn that The White Room girl was evil, and when she said “the answer is among you” it didn’t necessarily mean Connor. Gunn isn’t buying it, Connor’s gone against The Beast twice, and came away with barely any injuries.
Wesley appears in the doorway behind them and says that they’ve all faced The Beast twice and they are still around. Wesley tells he has found out some information about The White Room girl and that the earthly contingent of Wolfram & Hart is cut off from the senior
partners. Effectively neutralized. However, it appears that was not her only function. He just found an entry in Rhinehardt’s Compendium for that same little girl— or rather
the entity presenting itself as one and her name is Mesektet. But that wasn’t her only function, she also was one of five enormously powerful beings which are linked to an embodiment of the ancient god Ra.

Fred :”Which makes them totems, right? Symbolic manifestations.

Wesley :”Yes, totems which together form an order called the Ra-tet.

Gunn notices how Fred immediately opens up to Wesley when they brainstorm together.
He steps over and puts a possessive arm around her.
Gunn says he never heard of them. Wesley answers that’s because their origins have been shrouded in mystery since the dawn of time. Only the totems themselves know their true purpose.
Fred runs over to the computer to do some research and suggests that Gunn gives Angel an update.

Lorne enters, and says that The Beast has been linked to another killing ; a white magic shaman. He ripped her heart right out. Wesley isn’t sure that the modus operandi matches, Mesektet had energy taken from her. Fred asks Lorne if the lady’s name was Ma’at. Lorne confirms that it was. Gunn suggests that The Beast is taking out the members of the Ra-tet. Wesley says they can’t assume anything yet..

Fred :” Wes is right. Statistically it’s still a coincidence. Two
points—
Wesley :” —make a line, not a pattern.

Gunn notes the way Wesley finished Fred’s sentence for her, the way they
seem to be on the same wavelength.
They all look up as Cordelia walks in. They say hello to each other ; she just stares at them for a beat, then takes a deep breath ; saying she’s got to see Angel. She turns and heads up the stairs. Gunn remarks on how weird Connor has made her.

The Hyperion – Angel’s Suite – Daytime

A knock at the door. Angel looks up from his drawings.
Angel asks what it is, Cordelia tells him she wants to be invited in, because that is the polite thing to do. When Angel tells her to go away, she walks in anyways.

Cordelia :”Well, you know that never works.

Angel looks everywhere but at her as she walks over to the chair next to him and sits down.

Cordelia :”I don’t know where to start.
Angel :”Then skip to the end where you leave and we don’t talk about it.
Cordelia :”Aren’t you going to ask how Connor’s doing?
Angel :”Yeah, like I really want a progress report.
She tells him that isn’t what she meant. That Connor is scared to death, scared that Angel thinks he is connected to The Beast. Angel says The Beast does tend to show up whenever Connor is around.
Cordelia :”I swear. Like father, like son. The two of you have
cornered the market on teenage snits. How about you
stop being angry at me..
Angel slams a book down on the desk.
Angel :”How about you stop pretending to give a damn about my feelings!
Cordy tells Angel to get over it, to move one. She tries to tell him about her vision , but he is hung up on being told to get over it.

Angel :”You know, I never really thought about that. Get over it!
Why didn’t I think about that, huh? It’s so simple!

She reaches out to touch his face and he seizes her arm.
She apologizes for hurting him, but she tells him that he has to move on, there are bigger things at stake and Connor needs him. Angel calms down and releases her arm.
He asks about her vision, she says she felt like she was inside of someone, listening to them talk. She didn’t know who she was inside of nor did she know if it was the past or the future. Angel is sceptical about this vision. Cordy thinks it means the line between them and TPTB is still open, but Angel can’t believe anyone is up there watching them.

Cordelia :” I was. But I’m back now so you’re going to have to suck it
up and deal because things are going to hell and … and you’re the leader. So lead.

The Hyperion – Lobby – Daytime

The entire group is gathered: Angel, Wesley, Fred, Cordelia, Lorne and
Gunn.
Angel is giving a little speech, a pep talk, saying that the TPTB are sending them a wake up call. Sure, they’ve been beaten and demoralized, but they are on the offensive. They need to find out The Beast’s weaknesses and fight smart. Everyone has an Achilles’ heel. Gunn brings up the fact that they don’t have any leads.
Angel suddenly looks past him to the front door, a surprised look on his face and everyone follows his gaze. Gwen stands framed in the doorway, wearing a short black half-shirt and a red leather pants. Cordelia eyes her skeptically.
Gwen steps down into the room. She remembers Gunn and Fred protectively stands in front of him. Angel goes to introduce Cordy to Gwen, but Cordy remembers her.

Cordelia :I know who she is. [to Gwen] Caught your little show on
the omniscient higher-plane channel, thanks.
Gwen :”So you’re the girl who makes his heart go pitter-pat. Figuratively, at least. [to Angel] You must be so happy.
Angel : “I am. Not having the best week, to be honest.
Gwen :”Tell me about it. I mean, really. Tell me. Freak to freak. Is the world about to end or what?
She tells them that she met with a client last night in the oil fields. It was odd, because she had been working for him for six years, and never met with him before. While they were talking, his chest was punched out by a demon with a head of rock. She suddenly has the rapt attention of Wesley, Lorne, Gunn and Angel. She begins to describing the demon and Wesley asks if anything was removed from the client’s body.

Gwen :” Didn’t see. [to Angel] But you are hands down the weirdest
person I know, so I figured I’d ask you what’s going on.

Fred picks up the ancient book on the Ra-tet and approaches Gwen. She asks Gwen if the client was a saber-toothed tiger, or composed of light. Gwen says that light came out of his chest. This confirms the pattern the group was looking at earlier, The Beast is killing members of the Ra-tet. Three of the totems have been killed, which leaves Manjet and Semkhet. Angel announces that their plan is to find Semkhet and to protect him. Lorne turns the page and finds a woodcut of a little girl standing with her arms around a prehistoric great cat,.
Lorne :”Yeah, well won’t that be hoot. Looks like Semkhet is puddy-tat to the world’s scariest six-year-old. Cordy says it could be dangerous. Angels says he is taking Gwen with him.

Cordelia :”Well, shouldn’t we all go? It might—

He grabs his satchel and leads Gwen to the door.

Angel :”We can handle it. Superpowers. I’ll catch her up on the drive.
Cordelia :” But it’s a four-hour trip. Both ways.
Angel :”I’m sure we’ll find something to talk about.

Death Valley – Night

Angel and Gwen climb down a steep cliff face toward the entrance of Semkhet’s cave. Angel’s foot slips and Gwen shushes him. She starts to climb down after him and loses her balance, tumbling off the side. Angel catches her in his arms and smiles ironically at her.
A stealthy sound comes from within the cave and they both cautiously make their way inside.

Death Valley – Semkhet’s Cave - Night

Candles line the walls as Angel enters and draws his sword. They round the corner and find Semkhet, a human-like cat, lying on the cave floor, eviscerated. The Beast beat them there. Angel doesn’t know why the Beast is executing the totems, but a short man comes out from the shadows and says that he knows. The Beast wants to turn out the sun.
Introductions are made, and Manny ( aka Manjet , Sacred Guardian of the Shen, Keeper of the Orb of Ma’at and Devotee of Light.) reveals that he is the last living totem. He was in Belize until he heard that Mesektet was killed. And when he said the Beast was going to turn out the sun, he meant that the Beast wanted to blot out the sun – completely. When the totems are all dead, the Beast needs to perform a ritual, and the city will descend into never-ending night. Los Angeles becomes a demon playground, and the darkness spreads until it is global. Manny goes to leave – he knows he isn’t much longer for this world. Angel won’t let him go though – he says that they will protect him.

The Hyperion – Lobby – Night

Angel, Manny and Gwen enter through the front door. Angel asks if there wasn’t any movement of The Beast while they were gone. Gunns says not a peep and they are still trying to find out a way to kill It.
Fred looks at Manny dubiously and remarks that he doesn’t look like Semkhet. Angel introduces him to a surprised gang. Angel tells them they found out The Beast’s plan – to blot out the sun. Meanwhile Manny heads off to the washroom down the hall, stopping to pick up several newspapers off the counter first..
Angel confirms that Manny isn’t joking. They keep Manny away from The Beast, and the lights don’t go out. That way it will buy them time to figure out how to defeat The Beast. Fred says they need a small controlled place to keep Manny. They argue a bit where they could hide him till Gwen steps forwards and says she knows the right place.
Cordelia :” Great. As long as it’s not some non-descript tenement
downtown, with discarded boxes in the stairwells and peeling plaster and…

Downtown Tenement – Night

Gwen leads them into a non-descript tenement downtown, with discarded
boxes lining the stairwell.
Cordelia :” …the faint odor of dead people.
Angel reminds Cordy that she didn’t have to come along. Cordy says she thought it would be best to be with Angel, in case she had another vision. Manny knows The Beast is powerful, since he is able to take out the Ra-tet. Gunn wants to know what is up with Manny ; why isn’t he all mighty and colossal? Manny says he is the midday totem ; the neutral totem representing the potential of every human soul. He is also immortal, unless he is ritually murdered.

Cordelia :”Oh, well it’s too bad we came here, then.

Gwen stops before an iron door in a particularly seedy hallways and
places her bare hand on the lock. With a flash of blue electricity, the lock
releases and the door starts to swing open.

Cordelia:” …’cause if you’re going to be ritually murdered it’s probably going to be in a hellhole like…

Gwen steps inside and flips on the lights to reveal a lavish and spacious apartment.

Cordelia :” …this.

Gwen invites them in. Cordelia and the others enter and look around in wonder.
Gwenn shuts the door and disappears down a long hallway. Angel tells Cordy that after he used the Axis of Pythia to find her, he gave it back to Gwen.
Gwen returns and opens a set of double doors.
Gwen to Manny :” Let’s get you set up in the study.
They follow her into a spacious library with walls lined with bookshelves.
She crosses over to one of them and pulls a book out. It triggers a hidden panel which slides back revealing a steel vault door. She uses her power to activate the lock and the door slides back into the wall revealing a small closet-like room.
Gwen: ”It’s equipped as a panic room, too. Twelve inches of solid steel, it’s own ventilation system…
They decide to keep watch in shifts; Gunn and Gwen take the first tour hour shift.

Angel : ”Four hours on, four hours off. Bunk down off duty. Get as much sleep as we can. We’re already tired. Got a long few days ahead of us.

He turns and heads for the door. Cordelia shoots a dirty look at Gwen and follows. Manny pokes his head out of the panic room with a smile.

Manny: “ Hey, Gwen. Don’t suppose this joint’s got Skin-emax?

She just smiles and shuts the door, sealing him in

Later. Gunn sits in a chair while Gwen paces, telling him her life story. He is staring into the distance, preoccupied. He’s been thinking. Gwen tells him that she already apologized for killing him. When Gunn says that isn’t it, she says it must be the English Guy, meaning Wesley. She’s seen how he looks at Fred. She wants to know when things between Gunn and Fred changed. Gunn says it is a long story.
The door opens and she looks up as Angel and Cordelia enter. They come to relieve the two.
Gwen and Gunn leave Cordelia and Angel alone. Cordelia sits down and takes a sip of her coffee. Angel sits across from her, a tall glass of blood in his hand.

Cordelia :”So… all this time alone together. Could be good for us.
Maybe we should talk.
Angel :” Maybe we shouldn’t.
Cordelia :”Valid point.

The two of them sip their drinks in silence.
Later. Angel starts awake to find Gwen shaking him. He and Cordy fell asleep on their watch.
Gunn kneels beside Cordelia who is groggily coming around as well.
Angel leaps up and runs over to the vault door. It slides open to reveal Manny’s butchered body. Great swaths of blood and gore cover the walls. The Beast got him.

Gwen’s Apartment – Library – Night

Gwen paces while the others inspect the carnage.


Gwen: “Was that part of his powers? Extra blood and guts? I mean, that’s… that’s a lot of blood and guts in there. No way all that Stephen King came out of a normal guy.

Angel :” It was the Beast. It was looking for something Manny had.

Gunn: “ How do you know?

Angel holds up Manny’s hat. The center has been punched out of it.
Angel :” Emptied out his head to find it.

The Beast took the Orb from Manny. Suddenly Angel realizes that Gwen knows more than she is telling. She finally admits that she saw The Beast take a metal box out of her client.
They also realize that the only people that were in the room when Manny was killed were Cordy and Angel. Someone drugged the drinks they had made – for themselves. Gunn assumes that maybe it wasn’t The Beast who did this ; maybe it was Connor. Cordelia says this is ridiculous. Connor doesn’t even know where they are.
Angel asks if she called him she says he doesn’t even has a phone.
Cordelia :” I can’t believe you’d even consider …

Gunn: “Even if she didn’t call him, last time I checked, that boy could track anybody anywhere.
Angel: “But I’d know if he’d been here. I’d be able to smell him.
Gunn: “Same way you smelled whatever it was spiking your blood?

Gwen says this is impossible ; Cordelia says they are pretty clear on the whole impossible issue.
Then Gwen realizes she has to check the Security Cameras.
She walks out and into the next room. Angel and Cordelia follow.
Gwen got the cameras in every room ; she only has to rewind the tapes.
Angel tells Gunn to call Wes and Fred and let them know about the “toy surprises” inside each of the totems.
Angel heads for the security room as Gunn takes out his cell phone and dials.

Gwen Apartment – Security Room – Night

Gwen stares at a bank of monitors filled with static snow. It seems that before Cordy and Angel’s shift, someone cut the electricity. Gwen checks the system log, pushes a button and a keyboard slides out. While she types, Cordelia pulls Angel aside. She wants Angel to have a talk with Connor.
Gwenn says she knows the origin of the blackout. It kicked off in a small subset of the municipal A-14 grid. That’s the one under this block. About 10 minutes before Angel’s and Cordy’s watch.
Putting all the facts together and they realize it must be an inside job.

The Hyperion – Lobby – Day

Angel, Gwen, Cordelia and Gunn arrive back at the hotel.

Gwen :”I’m just saying, it never would have happened on my watch.
Cordelia :” Gosh, no! Because you’re supertramp
.
Angel goes over to the counter where Lorne is researching.

Angel :” What’s the latest?
Lorne shows them a diagram of what The Beast wants to assemble ; it is a winged figure. The Beast uses the toy surprises he ripped out of three of the totems, and then the energy he sucked out of the other two. When Gwen notices the wings are metal, she tells the gang to get her close enough to melt them, provided they are even able to find The Beast.
Fred and Wes enter and tell the gang that they’ve come up with a solution ; a portal. Gunn shakes his head; he is extremely bothered by this. Gunn stalks over to the weapons cabinet and puts away his things, obviously upset. Fred goes over and tries to calm him down.
He walks over and joins the others.

Angel :”Okay, so we’ve got everything we need to stop the ritual. Let’s clear out of here and try and locate the Beast.

As he starts packing up the books, Cordelia’s eyes go wide and she gasps as she received a vision of a medieval battlefield strewn with bloody and broken corpses. The Beast stands above it all, watching the dead and dying.
She describes the vision to Angel, she didn’t get to see who The Beast was talking to, but it felt familiar. Like it was someone she knew.

Angel : “Connor.
Cordelia :”I think it’s time we bring him into this, Angel. If nothing else, he’s our best chance at finding the Beast.

Connor’s Apartment – Daytime

Connor lies on his bed reading a magazine. A knock at the door and he gets up to answer it. He opens the door to find the Beast waiting for him.
Connor stares up at it in horror.
Connor turns and flees into the room as the Beast ducks low and moves through the doorway after him. Connor pushes off the wall and flips around, sending a flying kick at the Beast’s head. The creature barely notices the blow. He charges it again and the Beast catches him in mid-air and throws him to the ground. It seizes Connor by the leg and slams him to the floor, then picks him up and hurls him through the window.

Cut to ext. Industrial district – Daytime

Angel’s car pulls up just as Connor flies out the window and falls five
stories to land in a bloody and battered heap on the pavement in front of them.
Cordelia, Gunn, Gwen, Angel, Wesley and Fred emerge from the car.
Angel, covered in a blanket, tries to run to Connor but Gunn intercepts him and pushes him out of the sunlight.

Cordelia :” Oh, my god… Connor.

She kneels next to him and turns him over.
Connor manages to gasp out that The Beast is upstairs. Cordy stays with him and the rest of the group heads upstairs to try and stop The Beast.

Connor’s Apartment

The Beast holds up the combined totems— two metallic gold wings
topped with a glass orb— and blows a murky black energy cloud from its
mouth into the orb.

The orb turns dark and the Beast sets it down in the centre of a runic
diagram on the floor, then starts chanting.
BEAST :
Ket sahv Ma’at.
Ket sahv Mesektet.
It holds a human heart up and directly over the orb and squeezes the
blood out so that drops onto the obsidian orb.
BEAST :
Ket sahv Ma’at.
Ket sahv Mesektet.
The orb briefly glows a fiery red, then fades back to black.
The door slams open and the group charges in, Angel in the lead.

Fred :” He’s already started.

Back outside

Connor leans against the car, holding his ribs. He looks up at the shattered window far above.

Back at Connor’s Apartment

Gunn crashes to floor in a heap as Angel attacks the Beast. Fred and Wesley stand off to the side chanting while Gwen tries to get at the idol.
She spots an opening and dashes across the room toward it.
The Beast tosses Angel aside and turns back to Gunn when it spots Gwen behind it. It picks up a wooden crate and hurls it at her. It strikes her full force and shatters. She drops to the floor, dazed.
The idol breaks into its three component pieces and the orb rolls across the floor.
The glass orb comes to rest right between the Beast’s feet. It looks down at Angel with a predatory smile.

Back outside

Cordelia looks up at the building, worried, then gasps as more of the vision hits her. She flashes to the battlefield where the Beast is smiling at someone. She finally realizes who it’s talking to.

Cordelia:” Oh No !!!!

Back at Connor’s Apartment

The Beast kneels in the centre of the runic diagram.
BEAST
Ahmun Semkhet.
Vesh ra’an Manjet.

A shimmering energy filed starts to form around the Beast

Back outside

Connor :” What’s it like when you pass out?
Cordelia is distracted by her vision.
Cordelia: “ What?
Connor :” Things get dimmer, right?
Cordelia :” I guess. What—

She breaks off when she realizes things really are getting dimmer. She looks up at the sun just as cloudy jet-black tendrils crawl across the glowing disk, blocking the light and turning the day into dusk, then night.

Back at Connor’s Apartment


Angel watches the energy portal form around the Beast, then makes his move.
BEAST
Ket Mesektet.

Angel :” Now or never.

He raises his sword and attacks along with Gwen and Gunn. Between the three of them, they force it backward toward the portal. With a final leaping kick, Angel knocks it into the energy field and it disappears

Gwen smiles : “We did it. Didn’t we ?


Back outside
Outside, the sky gets even darker as Cordelia’s vision comes back again.
This time she sees it all.

Back at Connor’s Apartment
The group approaches the windows and look outside with apprehension. They notice the sun has been blotted out. Suddenly they all spin around to find the Beast behind them, striding into the room.
They back away from it in shock. He begins talking to Angel, he says that they don’t need to be enemies,

Back outside
We see Cordy’s vision and hear The Beast talk and imploring Angelus to join him.
We see Angelus standing before the Beast, bruised and bloody.
Back at Connor’s Apartment

Beast : “ Angelus …

Back outside

Cordelia stares at the ground in shock.
Cordelia :” The answer is among you…

Back at Connor’s Apartment

As Angel stares at it in stunned silence, the Beast bends down and picks up the orb from the center of the ritual circle. It puts the orb in its mouth and swallows, then turns to Angel. Telling him they will soon meet again.
Then it leaps out the window and is gone.

Back outside
The group heads back down to the pavement where Connor and Cordy are waiting for them. The Beast knows Angelus. Cordy’s visions weren’t visions; they were memories of when she experienced Angelus’ unlife when she was on a higher plane. Angel doesn’t remember anything about his encounter with The Beast. Gunn realizes that when Mesektet said “The Anwser is among you” she was referring to Angelus .

Angel :” What’s that supposed to mean?
Wesley:”It means you’re a suspect. If Cordelia’s right, we should admit the possibility that this Beast may have some sort of power over you. To make you do things. To make you forget.
Cordelia :”f And it has a plan. The rain of fire, taking down Wolfram & Hart, even blotting out the sun… I think now those were only the first steps to something bigger.
Angel :” Well, I don’t know what to tell any of you because I don’t know what the plan is!
Wesley :” No… but Angelus might. There’s only one way we’re
