Continued

Angel is shocked to see Lilah. Lilah asks him what's wrong, did he think he was the only one to come back from Hell. Wesley doesn't think it's her, but Angel tells him it is her. Gunn asks if she's a vampire, but Lilah tells him Wesley made sure that wouldn't happen. She is a messenger from Wolfram and Hart and will be sent back to Hell when she's finished. Angel explains that Lilah's contract with Wolfram and Hart extends beyond death and Lilah says, "The standard perpetuity clause."

Lilah says she's there because they have won and she's been sent to make them "The offer of a lifetime. If not mine."

Opening credits

Main
The hotel
Everyone is standing in silence, shocked. Each of them is waiting for someone else to speak. Eventually Gunn asks her to run that past them again. Lilah has been sent to offer them control of the LA branch of Wolfram and Hart. Fred points out that the Beast destroyed it, but Lilah says it's back, fully staffed. They get the full operation and what they do with it is up to them. Angel asks why they are giving them the office and Lilah says it's because they earned it. They stopped Jasmine from bringing about world peace and the office is their prize. The gang says they stopped world domination, and Lilah says that all the people were happy and peaceful. When it's pointed out that Jasmine was eating people, Lilah says they knew what they were getting into and Lorne says, "Her stomach?"

Lilah tells them to think about the proposal. There will be a limo waiting for them just before sunrise to give them the grand tour of the office.

The streets
Connor is walking along as chaos and rioting go on around him. He ends up on the roof of a building where a policeman is in a terrible state. Connor asks if he's ok, but the policeman says that he's lost something and that he can't find it, will Connor help him find it? Connor says he can't help him, and the policeman goes to shoot himself. Connor stops him and tells him to go home. The policeman doesn't really understand what Connor is talking about, so Connor asks him if he has a family. The policeman shows him a picture of his wife and children. When Connor asks if he was going to leave them the policeman says he hadn't thought about it. Connor gets angry and starts hitting the policeman saying, "Think about this."

The hotel
Wesley is trying to work out where Connor may have gone so they can find Cordelia. Wesley says they could work out from the centre in ever increasing circles until they find them. Gunn says that won't take weeks, maybe they could do with a state of the art office. Gunn mentions Lilah's visit and Wesley says, "That was awkward. You decapitate a loved one, you don't expect them to come visiting."

Lorne comes in and Angel asks if he's found anything. Lorne says plenty, but not about Connor or Cordelia. When Gunn starts to make a suggestion of what they could do, Angel gets angry and tells them that if they get into the limo, they will be corrupt before the journey is over. Angel leaves to find Connor and the others say they are going to bed or going home.

Outside the hotel
Fred goes outside to see the limo waiting. Wesley is already there. Then Gunn joins them. They all say they thought they should find out what Wolfram and Hart is up to. Wesley asks, "What are the odds that the humans would be the most corruptible?"
Gunn says they should take the tour and Wesley agrees as long as they have their wits about them and their eyes open there shouldn't be any……
Angel, leaning against the gatepost, finishes for him, "Surprises?"
Then he says, "What the hell" and goes and opens the limo door, to find Lorne already sitting in it, with the music blasting out and a drink in his hand.

Wolfram and Hart
Angel, Gunn, Lorne, Fred and Wesley step out of a lift. Everyone they meet greets them with "Morning mister Angel."
Angel says, "There's no way this is going to go well."

Lilah meets them. She tells them she will introduce them to their guides. Angel isn't happy about this `divide and conquer` method. Lilah offers them any weapons they want if that will make them feel more secure. Fred takes a large machine gun.

Each of them is given a guide. Lorne discovers Wolfram and Hart represent everyone he's ever wanted to meet. Wesley's guide is a former Watcher. Gunn has a beautiful black woman as a guide. Fred has a science geek as her guide. Angel's guide is Lilah.

Each is taken to their representative departments. Gunn is taken to security. He feels like he is being treated as just the muscle again, but his guide tells him they have so much more planned for him.

Fred is taken to the science division. Her guide tells her he manages the section for the head of the department, which would be her.

Wesley is taken to an office. There are a number of books lined up on a desk. Wesley isn't impressed until the former Watcher asks him to name any book he wants. He then picks up one of the books and hands it to Wesley and it is the book he asked for. The books on the desk are a link to the locked database of books and records. The Watcher asks how Wesley knew he had been a Watcher and Wesley says "There's just something about Watchers and libraries." Then he knocks the Watcher out and produces a gadget from up his sleeve, which he shoots at the ceiling and is pulled up on a cable.

Lilah tells Angel his office has its own elevator to the car park where he has twelve cars at his use. Then she opens the blinds on the office windows and bright sunlight pours into the room. Angel recoils from it, then realises he isn't burning. All the windows have a special tint on them that lets the sunlight in, but stops him burning. Angel stands basking in the sunlight, but then he tells Lilah to close the curtains he's not taking the job. Lilah tells him it's not a job, it's an opportunity. She says the world is harsh and cruel and with the resources of Wolfram and Hart he can do so much more to help people. Then she gives Angel a folder marked Sunnydale. She tells him the talisman inside is needed for some final battle. Angel closes the folder saying, "Buffy can handle herself."
Lilah says, "But isn't it more fun when you handle her?"
Then she tells him he also has access to files on murderers and missing persons. Angel asks what she knows about Connor and Cordelia, but Lilah says nothing, but she can find out, all she has to do is pick up the phone. Angel says he's sorry for what happened to Lilah, but him and his friends will be leaving now. As he's leaving the phone rings. Lilah says the Senior Partners want Angel to test all the amenities. A panel opens in the wall to reveal a television screen. There is a news broadcast on about a hostage situation in a shop. Connor is there.

Angel grabs Lilah by the throat and she tells him to be careful, her head comes off easily. She says they didn't have anything to do with it, it's Angel's fault, he's the one who raised Connor, or rather didn't. She tells him that this is a one-time offer, if he walks out of the door the deal is off. Angel says it's people like Wolfram and Hart that makes the world the place it is and he will never be a part of that, or not the way they think.

An elevator
Gunn is being taken to see something by his guide. When he realises it's the White Room he doesn't want to go and tries to stop the lift, but he ends up in the White Room anyway. He stands there and a black panther walks towards him. He says he thinks he liked the little girl better. The panther walks up to him and it and Gunn look into each other's eyes.

The Shop
Connor is wandering about among the hostages. He tells one man off for not holding his daughter properly. When the man says he thinks Connor broke his arm, Connor just tells him to hold her right. He stands and stops. Then he says, "So you got in."

The records section of Wolfram and Hart
Wesley knocks out a guard. There are filing cabinets as far as the eye can see. Wesley starts searching through them, then Lilah appears. She tells him every little scheme is here. He realises she knew he would come to this department. She says, "Who knows you as well as me?"
Wesley says, "Maybe you don't know me as well as you thought."
Then he hunts through the cabinet he had opened. He finds Lilah's contract and sets light to it. She is very touched that he tried to give her peace, but she tells him to look in the draw, and the contract is back there again. She tells him she knew what she was signing up for, but it means something that he tried.

The shop
Angel walks towards Connor and an explosion goes off. Connor tells him to be careful because next time it could be any one of the people. Then he stands up and turns to reveal the explosives strapped to himself and tells Angel he could be next, or maybe her, and he points to Cordelia lying on the floor with explosives strapped to her.

Angel tells Connor they all felt the loss of Jasmine, but Connor says that's the problem, he didn't feel anything. Connor says his mother didn't love him so she killed herself. Angel tried to love him but not enough to hold on to him when Holtz took him. The others were all a lie. Angel wants to help Connor, to try to help him start over, but Connor says he can't be helped, he can't be saved by a lie, he can't be saved at all. Then he goes to set off the explosives strapped to him, but Angel gets to him first and grabs the detonator before he can set it off.

Connor and Angel fight. Angel knocks Connor down and manages to release the hostages and tell them to run. Then Connor hits him again as he tries to get the explosives off Cordelia. Connor tries to run and Angel throws a knife at him, hitting him in the leg. Angel grabs Connor and tells him that he really does love him. Connor says, "So what are you going to do about it?"

Wolfram and Hart
Lorne is singing a song from West Side Story as he walks through the foyer of the office. When Fred arrives he starts dancing with her. Wesley gets back as Gunn steps off the elevator. Fred comments that Gunn looks different, and he says he's going to do this whether they do or not. Fred asks if he's talking about taking the offer and Angel appears saying he's already made an executive decision and accepted the deal. Lilah tells them Cordelia is getting the best treatment possible although she is still in a coma. Angel then says he needs to see Connor. Lilah says that wasn't part of the deal but Angel insists. Lilah hands Angel the dossier on Sunnydale and leads him out. As the others look on Fred asks, "Who's Connor?"

A limousine
A car is driving along a country road in the sunshine. When Angel gets out it is dark and he goes and looks in the window of a house. Inside a family is sitting down to a dinner celebrating the son's results at school and discussing colleges. The son is Connor. As he makes a toast to family, Angel smiles and walks away.

Rating and Comments:
After the action of the last few episodes, this is a much quieter episode on the action front, but the team has some very difficult questions and decisions to make, as well as relationships to deal with. Wesley has to deal with the return of Lilah. As he said, "You decapitate a loved one, you don't expect them to come visiting."
This may be a flippant remark on his part, but it is said to hide his true feelings from Gunn. And we see, probably more clearly than it's been shown previously, how much he does care for Lilah when he tries to destroy her contract to let her have some peace. I found that a very poignant action on his part.

And Angel has to make the very difficult choice that a parent who has given up a child for adoption will understand, am I willing to give up my child so that child can have a better life than I can give it? After the abuse he suffered at the hands of Holtz as he grew up, Connor was seriously screwed up. Angel gave him the loving family he so desperately wanted. However, something I did have a problem with was, after all Angel's talk to Jasmine about us having the right to free will and choice, Connor was given no choice as to whether he wanted to have his memories and destiny altered. I understand that as far as Angel could see, this was the right, and possibly only thing to do. And yet again he is giving up someone he loves for his or her own good. But surely after the fight to give mankind back their right to choice, Angel didn't have the right to take that choice from Connor. Connor would probably have chosen the option Angel took, but it still didn't quite sit right with me.

The last couple of episodes have had difficult questions about what is right or wrong, good or bad. Now the team is faced with the question of whether they should use the resources of the evil side to fight the good fight. Wolfram and Hart have a lot to offer every member of the Angel Investigations team, but as Angel said, it can't end well. You just know they are going to have to pay for accepting Wolfram and Harts offer, so it will be interesting to see what deal Angel actually made.

And finally, what has happened to Gunn? Has he and the panther become one? Is he now the link between the Powers/Wolfram and Hart that the little girl used to be? There have been so many comments in recent episodes about Gunn being more than just the muscle that I wonder if this is a way to show that.

Oh, and one last thing, I hope Angel doesn't spend all his time in limousines now. I'd miss the old car!

All I can say after this season is role on season 5!
