The Hotel
Angel stands alone in his destroyed room.

Wesley's apartment
Gunn tries to convince Fred that Wesley won't be back. Fred wants to find his diaries as they may contain clues as to why he took Connor, but Gunn wants to get back to the hotel to see is Angel has returned. As they drive away, Fred tries Wesley's mobile again, but they don't hear it ring as it lies on the grass opposite the apartment beside a dead looking Wesley.

Holtz's place
Holtz's men are beating up 2 vampires they have chained to the ceiling. Justine comes in and stakes both the vampires, then tells the others that Holtz escaped with the child and now they must finish the work he started and kill Angelus.

Main
The Hotel
When Fred and Gunn get back to the hotel, Lorne tells them the baby is gone. Fred gets very upset that the baby went through a portal because it's such a frightening experience, while Gunn can't understand why Wesley would hand the baby over to Holtz. Lorne says he read Wesley and that he'd met Holtz at least twice before he took Connor. Gunn insists Lorne must have read Wesley wrong, but Lorne says when he left Wesley wasn't coming back. Fred asks why, just as Angel comes down the stairs. He answers her saying he doesn't care why, he only cares about getting his son back, and then he'll deal with those who took him, including Wesley. Angel sends Lorne to find out all he can about the Quortoth dimension. Gunn tells Angel they'll be with him all the way, but don't they need to open a portal and none of them know how to do that. Angel, however, is going to find Sahjan.

Lilah's office
Linwood walks in. He's annoyed that Lilah met with Sahjan and Angel behind his back, but she has a report on everything that happened ready for him. Sahjan has told him what happened and Linwood is not happy about it. Lilah insists she had a gun to her head and that was why she had to let the baby go, but Linwood thinks it's a big win for Holtz and not for Wolfram and Hart.

The Hotel office
Fred is surfing the web trying to find information on Sahjan while Gunn and Angel check files. All of them are coming up blank. Fred wants to call Cordelia in Mexico, but Angel stops her and gets upset when she tries to press the matter. He then tells them to forget about searching for information as it isn't working and walks out. Fred and Gunn decide they should find Wesley before Angel does.

The park opposite Wesley's apartment
A tramp finds Wesley and thinks he's been mugged so goes through his pockets to find any Id, but finds the large sum of money Wesley had with him. He drags Wesley behind a bush and leaves him there.

The Hotel
Angel is standing in front of the weapons cabinet when Lorne comes in. Lorne has discovered that the Quortoth is a terrible place. He has also discovered that it wasn't a portal Sahjan opened but a rip in the dimension, which takes dark power, built up over centuries. Angel meanwhile, is wandering about looking or pointy objects. Lorne then points out that they don't have the resources to conjure up that kind of dark power but Angel doesn't seem to be paying attention and goes up the stairs to his destroyed room. At the door Lorne tells him that if he could get into the Quortoth, finding Connor would be like looking for a needle in a haystack the size of China. Angel comments that he should have thought of needles, then opens the door to his room. Sitting in the middle of the devastation of the room is Linwood, tied to a chair. Lorne asks who this is and Linwood tells him his position at Wolfram & Hart.

Angel has arranged an assortment of pointy objects on a table, which he sets down in front of Linwood. He picks up a letter spike and sits on the edge of the desk in front of Linwood with the spike in his hand. Linwood tells him the full force of Wolfram & Hart is at his disposal to find his son but Angel brings the point of the spike very close to Linwood and asks who Sahjan is and how he can find him. Linwood gets Angel to hit the speed dial button on the phone in his jacket pocket. Angel does this and puts the phone to Linwood's ear. It's Lilah's number and Linwood tells her he's sending over a client and she is to give him everything he wants.

Holtz's place
Justine is whittling a stake when Gunn and Fred walk in. Gunn thinks Justine and Holtz lured Wesley in and then he couldn't get out but Justine says he knew what he was doing. Gunn refuses to leave until they've found out what happened to Wesley. Justine says they're half-right and her minions come in behind them and a fight breaks out. One of the gang puts a knife to Gunn's throat and Justine has a flashback to her doing the same thing to Wesley and tells Gunn and Fred to get out.

Wolfram & Hart
Lilah and Angel are walking along a corridor to a lift. Lilah is excited about the `White Room`. They get into the lift and Lilah asks Angel if they told him how to get there. She says a guy from litigation went there and he's been in an asylum since. Angel takes a piece of paper from his pocket and punches several of the floor level buttons and a larger button appears at the top. Lilah is impressed and tries to take the piece of paper from him but Angel puts it back in his pocket and presses the new button. Everything in the lift goes white and they walk out into a completely white room, empty except for the little girl sitting on a chair in the centre of it. She tells Angel about Sahjan and how she hates chaos and so made him immaterial. Sahjan's essence can be contained in a jar, or he can be made corporeal but there's a price, Angel must kill Lilah. When he grabs Lilah ready to break her neck, the girl laughs and stops him and says she can see why they respect him. A piece of paper with the ritual to make Sahjan flesh disappears from the girls hand and appears in Angels. She says she can't wait to see how it works out, then everything goes white.

Fred gets into the dumpster and finds Wesley's diaries.

Wesley's apartment
Fred and Gunn are going through the diaries. Fred says he was very frightened about a prophecy he'd translated and had gone everywhere to try to disprove it. Gunn finds the prophecy `the father will kill the son`. Fred is relieved because Wesley did the only thing he could do under the circumstances and they have to go and tell Angel but Gunn questions whether Angel will forgive Wesley for giving his son to his mortal enemy. Fred says he could begin to forgive.

The Hotel lobby
Lorne is asking Angel not to do `this thing`. Angel has a paintbrush in his hand and he asks Lilah if it's right and she says the pentogram we see painted on the floor looks right. Lorne again tries to stop him but Angel ignores him and asks Lilah what's next. She says human blood. She picks up a knife and walks over to Linwood. She stands in front of him and slices her own hand then walks to the centre of the pentogram and lets her blood drip there. She walks out of the pentogram and Angel reads the spell. There's a flash and a whirlwind of light then it disappears, but there's nothing there. Angel shouts, "where is he?" then he points his axe at Linwood and asks again "where is he?"

A road
Sahjan appears in the middle of the road. A pickup hits him and another car hits it. Then the pickup is tipped over onto its side. Sahjan stands up and says; "Now this is more like it".

The Hotel
Angel is dragging Linwood, still tied to the chair, up the stairs. Lorne tries to talk Angel out of killing Linwood. Lilah tells him to hold on as she's been on the phone to Wolfram and Hart and they registered a severe psychic disturbance at the same time as the spell. Angel lets the chair go and Linwood falls down the stairs, the chair smashing, then goes to leave.

Fred and Gunn arrive. Fred tries to talk to Angel on his way out, but he won't stop so she shouts, "the father will kill the son". Angel stops and Fred tells him about the prophecy. Gunn says Wesley was trying to protect him and Connor like they are now, but Angel turns to walk out. Gunn mentions the prophecy and Angel says it was wrong, he'd never hurt Connor, then leaves. Gunn asks what Linwood and Lilah are doing there and Lorne tells him it's really bad involving kidnapping and dark magic. Linwood says Angel will pay for what he's done to him.

Outside the Hotel
Justine shoots Angel in the shoulder with a crossbow bolt. He sees her, pulls out the bolt and dodges the second shot. He then takes out the rest of the gang barely stopping on his way out. Outside the gates Justine punches him but he just tells her he's not her boyfriend so she should find someone else to smack her around.

Fred and Gunn leave the hotel to find battered gang members trying to make their escape. They recognise Wesley's car and follow.

The scene of the accident
The driver of the pickup is sitting on the curb in shock. He's watching the others involved in the accident being taken away by ambulance. Angel walks up and hunkers down beside him. He asks the driver what happened and he tells Angel that he hit a man. Angel tells him it isn't his fault and asks what happened to the guy. The driver says he wasn't there, he was gone. Angel repeats that it isn't his fault before he walks away.

Sahjan's place
Justine is walking around the room reminiscing about Holtz when Fred and Gunn arrive and ask where Wesley is. Justine says he's not coming back but she means Holtz. She's realised he only cared about getting back at Angel. Gunn wants to know where Wesley is so they want to hear his side of things. Justine tells them he gave up everything he believed in to save the child. When Fred asks again where Wesley is Justine says heaven or hell, she cut his throat. Fred hits her and Gunn stops Justine hitting Fred back. He knocks her to the ground and tells her to stay down but she says no and gets up so he hits her and knocks her down again. She says she trusted the wrong man. Gunn pulls her to her feet and says she's going to take them to Wesley and he'd better be alive. Then Sahjan walks in saying " You call that a fight? My home, uninvited guests? It can't end well".

Sahjan recognises Justine as having tried to cut his head off when they first met and he hits her sending her flying. He smashes a chair saying he missed smashing things. Then Angel speaks behind him. Sahjan turns round and guesses Angel made him mortal. Angel says if he takes him to Quortoth they can call it quits, but Sahjan can't do that because it can only be opened once and he's telling the truth about that. Gunn asks what he's not telling the truth about and Sahjan says, "Have you read any good prophecies lately?" He travelled backwards and forwards in time and rewrote the prophecies because the actual prophecy was that Angel's son would kill Sahjan. He says Holtz was spineless, he just wanted to raise Connor as his own but Wesley did what he needed.

Angel and Sahjan fight, Sahjan finally throwing Angel on a table and is about to stake him when Justine comes in with a jar that sucks Sahjan into it. She tells them Holtz left it, then Fred asks where's Wesley. Justine tells them he's in the park opposite to his apartment.

The park opposite Wesley's apartment
Angel, Fred and Gunn are looking for Wesley. Fred wonders if Justine was lying again, but Angel can smell the blood and knows Wesley was there. Angel says "He can't be dead" but it's unclear whether he's talking about Wesley or Connor. Gunn is desperate to get Angel inside as it's nearly sunrise.

The Hotel office
Angel is standing looking round the office when Lorne comes in. Angel says he put Gunn and Fred in danger because he was only interested in getting his hands on Sahjan. Then he asks if Lorne thinks Wesley is dead. Lorne replies he is ever hopeful, then points out that if Lilah and Sahjan's plans had worked Angel would have Connors blood on his hands, but Angel thinks he does anyway. Lorne tells him he did everything he could with the knowledge he had at the time and that maybe the way he can start forgiving himself would be by forgiving Wesley.

The telephone rings and Lorne answers it. It's Fred. They've found Wesley.

The Hospital
Fred and Gunn are sitting in the hospital foyer when Angel walks in. He asks if Wesley has asked for him. Gunn and Fred tell him that he can't speak and he's not out of the woods yet. Angel enquires as to whether he can see Wesley and Fred says she's sure he'd like that.

Angel goes into Wesley's room. He tells him he understands why Wesley did what he did because he thought he was going to turn evil and kill his son, which he didn't. He says it's important that Wesley knows it's him and not Angelus speaking. He asks Wesley if he knows that and Wesley nods. Then Angel flies at him screaming and puts a pillow over his face. He says he'll never forgive him and that Wesley is going to pay for what he did. Alarms go off and orderlies come running. As Angel is dragged from the room he screams "You think I'll forgive you? I'll never forgive you! I'll kill you, you're a dead man Price, you're dead, I'll kill you, you're a dead man. Dead".
