Over The Rainbow
| Angel, Wesley and The Host soon realize that Cordelia has been sucked
into The Hosts dimension. Cordy, meanwhile, wakes up in a strange world - one with two suns. She puts two and two together and realizes that when they returned Landok to Pylea, she was pulled along with him. Terrified, she screams for help and then realizes that she probably shouldn't be calling attention to herself. She hears an odd noise and sees a "hellbeast" staring at her. It begins to come toward her and Cordy runs for her life. Back at Caritas, Angel leaps into action. He has to get her back. He grabs the book and prepares to read from it, expecting the portal to take him through as well. Wesley tells him it's a bad idea, they don't know if or how they can get back. Angel tells him it's Cordelia, they have to try. He reads from the book, but nothing happens. Angel wonders if the batteries are dead. Wesley suggests they go back to the hotel and try to find a way to create another portal. The Host thinks it's a bad idea that they go at all, their dimension isn't notably friendly to humans. In Pylea, Cordelia is still being chased by the hellbeast. It overtakes her, knocking her down and jumping on top of her. She tries to fend it off but it just licks her like it's a dog. She's quite relieved and happy to see it's owner. Cordy tries to make nice with the owner but he pretty much ignores her in favor of congratulating his pet on finding a 'cow'. Cordy objects to being called a cow but the man fires off something at her that shoots straps around her, effectively capturing her. He refers to her as a "cow" and mentions the good price she'll fetch on the market. Cordelia now just hopes he doesn't eat cows. When she speaks to him he doesn't answer. Instead he speaks to his hellbeast, telling it that she's very chatty and that will drive down her price. The old man then takes out a cloth gag from his pocket which he shoves into her mouth to shut her up. At the Hyperion, Angel questions The Host about his home world. Lorne is not very forthcoming, he hated his home world, he came here, he's never, ever going back. He does, however, confirm that he came to here from there via a portal. He didn't do anything to bring the portal about, it just appeared and he figured it was an answer to his prayers. Angel wonders who did open the portal but Lorne never looked a gift horse in the mouth. He tells Angel that he ended up in an abandoned warehouse building. He created Caritas on the very spot he entered this dimension. He also mentions that he thought he'd been delivered from Hell. Angel freaks, is Cordy in a Hell dimension? The Host tells him not literally but it's pretty close. There's no music there. He could hear songs in his head and thought he was crazy until he came here. He warns them not to kid themselves, she's in a bad place. Wesley then comes to the realization that the portal can't work because it's 'cold'. It has to recharge itself. When Landok used the portal to go back to Pylea (taking Cordy along for the ride) it depleted the portal of it's natural energy. He also tells them that when beings go through a portal they tend to separate, or end up in different places. Angel is terrified to realize what that means: Cordy really is alone. Gunn joins them, looking out of sorts. But before Angel can update him on what's going on, he gives them the bad news. He's not going with them to rescue Cordelia. The night before, he lost one of his friends and he should have been there to help. He hopes they find Cordelia but he can't make a one way trip. He thought he owed it to them to tell them face to face. After Gunn leaves, The Host tells both men that he sympathizes with him. He isn't going to Pylea either. Angel is not pleased, it's his homeworld, and they need a guide. He has to go. The Host doesn't budge, he is NEVER going back there. However, he'll help them get there - he has an idea of how to find their hotspot. Cordelia is being hauled through the village square, hands and feet tied to a pole. Still gagged, she watches as the old demon man haggles with an old crone demon woman about a price for her. After much arguing, and many insulting comments about Cordy, they agree on a price: 1 pig and 1 pint of good liquor. After agreeing, they untie Cordy from the pole and take the gag off her (big mistake). She launches into a speech about how she's a human, not a cow and they can't sell her. Plus, she figures she's worth more than one pig. She also thinks she has rights and starts to go into how she wants to go back home when she's zapped mid-sentence by the restrictive collar she now wears around her neck. Freaked she tries to figure out what it is. Turns out it's the lady - she's zapping Cordelia with some kind of electric shock. She tells Cordy that cows are for working - not for talking. She instructs Cordelia to follow her back to the farm. Cordy doesn't want to, but once she's shocked a couple of times, she realizes the merit in doing what she's told. As Cordy follows the woman, she's observed by a grungy looking young woman - it's the girl that Cordelia had the vision of back in Los Angeles - Fred. Meanwhile, The Host goes to visit his friend, Aggie who works on a telephone psychic line. He wants her to tell him where his friends can find a hot spot. She doesn't want to tell him where they are - she can see that he's conflicted about this portal business. He tells her that they want to go to his home world, Pylea. She asks/tells him that he doesn't want to go. He, in a very descriptive manner, tells her that no, he doesn't want to go back there. She tells him that the only way she'll tell him where the hot spot is if he goes with them. Horrified, he wants to know why. She tells him that he has to resolve these issues he has with his home world. He has to go back one last time. She tells him that sometimes the journey is taken simply because it must be taken. Back at the hotel, Wesley is looking for a way for them to get through the portal without being separated. He had thought he had found a way for them to get through, but they could end up as freakish Siamese twins. Angel tells him to keep looking. Wesley tells him that he keeps seeing mentions of iron, but he has to figure out how to use it. As they debate the issue, two lawyers come in from Wolfram & Hart. They know that Angel's lease is up in about 6 months and might be interested in buying it. Angel doesn't care, he's not letting them look around. The lawyers leave, after telling him that they'll call the agent and let them know that he's not cooperating. Angel's really sick of Los Angeles and wants to know how quickly Wesley can get them out of this dimension. Cordelia is now in a barn, shoveling something. Her clothes have been taken from her and she's now dressed in some drab clothing. She's clearly unhappy. She complains about how she wants to go home. She wants to order Thai and read "Marie Clare." Really she wants to be doing anything other than "shoveling demon horse poo." That gets her zapped in the collar from her new owner and Cordy (temporarily) shuts up. She decides that what she needs to do is take the collar off. But as she tries, she hears a female voice from behind the wall. The voice (it's Fred) warns her not to take the collar off. If she does, her head will explode. Cordelia rushes over to a tiny hole in the wall trying to see who's on the other side. Fred, who sounds a bit off, warns her to keep shoveling while they talk. Cordelia tells her that she's from Los Angeles, where is she from? Fred says that she was born here, well she wasn't really but sometimes it feels that way. It's quite obvious that Fred's a bit strange. Fred tells her that she's in Pylea and if she's here from another dimension, she must be lost as so many of them are. Cordelia wants to know how to get back. Fred tells her she doesn't, she'll stay here until her body is used up and then they'll kill her. Cordelia says that's not going to happen to her. She has friends that will figure out how to get her back. They both realize that they both came here through portals, but before Fred can talk more, she's discovered by the constable who comes and drags her off. Apparently Fred has figured out how to deactivate her collar. Angel leaves a message for somebody - he doesn't know when they'll be back. He leaves vital information about the hotel and when they're going and then, at a loss, hangs up. The Host comes in, wanting to know how Angel is. Angel tells him that he's just waiting for Wesley to have his 'eureka' moment. The Host decides that there's something he has to tell Angel about Cordelia and her situation in Pylea: Humans are slaves in Pylea. Angel grins to think of Cordy taking orders from anyone. The Host puts a stop to the levity. Humans are SLAVES there and it's serious. She could be killed if she steps out of line. Angel realizes that the Host is not joking and realizes that they have to get her out of there as soon as they can. Thank goodness for them, Wesley has his eureka moment (The Host is amazed when Wesley actually says eureka). He's figured out a way to get them to Pylea without being separated. Angel's ready to go. In Pylea, Cordelia is following her owner around. She wears something like a yoke around her neck and is hauling packages. Cordelia attempts to talk to her owner but only gets reprimanded. The lady warns Cordy not to spill the milk she's carrying, it's worth more than she is. At this bad moment, Cordelia begins to get a familiar feeling. She's going to have a vision. She spills to the ground, dropping the packages and spilling the milk. The vision is of one of the villagers being attacked by a Drokken. As she comes out of the vision, she sees a group of villagers staring at her. They begin to point at her and say that she's cursed. She tries to tell them that she's not cursed, they have to go save the villager but they don't listen. It turns out that the dimensional hot spot that Aggie found is at Paramount Pictures. They all are sitting in Angel's convertible because, as it happens, they needed to be surrounded on all four sides by iron. That should keep them together. As they get ready to go, Gunn shows up. He couldn't let them go alone when Angel sounded so depressed on the phone. Wesley reads from the book and the portal begins to shimmer in front of them. Angel tells them to take a last look around and then drives the car into the portal As they drive through the portal, the book stays behind and drops to the ground, smoking. When they get to the other side they crash to the ground and come to a screeching halt. It's daytime and Angel scrambles to get undercover before he bursts into flames. It take him a minute to realize that he's not bursting into flames. In fact, he's absolutely fine. They figure that the sun must not affect him the same way. The Host then points out that there's two suns. Angel's glad that they made it. Angel also realizes that he's not on fire and he's out in the sun. Wesley's just glad that they didn't merge into a "freakish four-man Siamese twin." Gunn's disturbed that he was never told that was a threat. Angel really wants everyone to notice that he's not on fire. The Host reminds them that they should hide the car as there are none in this dimension. They all agree that as interesting as this world is (and Angel's loving the fact that he can be in the sun without harm) they need to find Cordelia quick. Cordelia, in the meantime, is being questioned by priests in a cave. They want to know if she's cursed. She says she's not, until they say that one who is cursed would have visions. She does have visions, but she doesn't get them very often and she doesn't know anything about a curse. The villagers confirm that what she saw in her vision came to pass. Cordelia exclaims that she uses them to help people. The head priest, Silas silences the crowd and Cordelia. If they are to determine if she is cursed, she'll have to be tested. He brings some sharp instruments out, Cordelia's eyes widen. What are they going to do to her? The guys finish covering the car and begin to head on out to the village. Angel and Wesley soon discover that neither of them has the book. They argue about it until they realize that probably the book only exists in their dimension. It wouldn't have worked over here anyway. They'll have to figure out another way to get home. The Host is not thrilled. Cordelia has survived the tests, but judging by her upset state, they were unpleasant. Silas announces to the crowd that it's been confirmed, she does have the sight. The crowd erupts into loud murmurs, the priests pick up the limp Cordelia and haul her out of sight of the crowd. As they go into the village, The Host recognizes the house of a childhood friend of his. He decides to go in and see if he can help. He's not in very long before he's chased out by said friend. Apparently, they're not on such good terms anymore. They're chased by a mob into the village square. They attempt to fight but are soon overtaken and tied up. The constable shows up and orders The Host to be taken one place while Angel, Wesley and Gunn are taken to the dungeon to await judgment and sentencing by Her Royal Highness. In the dungeon, Angel, Wesley and Gunn are all shackled. Angel restlessly looks for a way out while Gunn tries to break the shackles (which doesn't work, they're too strong.) In short, they're miserable and try to pass the time by thinking of other things. Wes and Gunn both dream about what they would like to eat. When they both turn to Angel, he reminds them that as a vampire, they really don't want him to daydream about what he'd like to eat. As they wait, it turns out that Angel can hear the guards out in the hallway (through a six inch thick wall) - his enhanced vampire senses make this feat possible. The guards are talking about a girl with visions, who they quickly realize is Cordelia. They say that when they tested the girl for the 'sight,' she screamed. The guys are angry, but powerless to do anything to help her. In short order, the guards come to take them to the castle for their sentencing. As they are led down a castle hallway, they are joined by The Host, whose wrists are shackled. He's glad to see them as he expected they'd be dead. He was put through a questioning, where he was shoved around and asked a lot of questions. As they are led to their sentencing, Angel asks the Host if they'll be brought in separately or together. He's not exactly sure, but he thinks they'll be brought in together. Angel begins to formulate a plan. After the count of three they make their attempt at escape, but are quickly subdued and brought to their knees. They hear a clearing of the throat and look up, finding to their shock that Cordelia is sitting on the throne. She's the monarch of Pylea. |
| Rating and Comments: Okay, I know that I don't really like the whole Pylea arc. But this episode was alright and quite funny. Mostly what I liked were the parts with Cordelia - she's always funny when put in a situation where she's not the figurative Queen. To have her become a literal Queen after being a slave and "shoveling demon horse poo" was very amusing. |
