Blind Date
| Vanessa Brewer is a blind woman who appears to be a typical defenceless
disabled person, but turns out to be anything but. Angel is fighting vampires in a nest
located in a disused textiles factory and after dusting the two vamps he hears someone
struggling... When Angel finds a man clutching his wounded stomach he soon discovers that
Vanessa may be blind but can anticipate his every move and beat him without being injured. Wesley and Cordelia are convinced that Angel has discovered a new species of demon, after checking through the very public records of the LAPD and find that she has a record for a number of crimes, most of which have never even made it to the courts. It comes as no real surprise when she is being defended in court by Wolfram & Hart on charges of murder. As Lindsey defends his client, playing the "poor defenceless disabled person" card Angel walks in and throws the dark glasses she lost while fighting Angel the night before. Even though she has her back to him, she reaches her hand up and catches the glasses. Angel returns to the office to tell the others that Vanessa is being defended by Wolfram & Hart Pro Bono and surmises that she is still an employee enjoying the right of being defended for free by her employers. In the resplendent offices of the law firm, Vanessa thanks Lindsey for getting her off all charges and makes the usual comment used by people of limited vision "Nice to see you again", which is guaranteed to make most people feel a little uncomfortable on how they should reply. After she leaves, Lindsey and his boss have a private talk about why Lindsey has been unhappy of late. A good boss can tell when things aren't right and try to sort something out to retain staff he values. Lindsey is unaware of what is happening and that he will gain substantially when the harvest takes place... Lindsey is told to create a valid defence for the next actions of Vanessa, he is told that she will be disposing of three children who have arrived in LA and need to be killed at the behest of some of Wolfram & Hart's more influential clients. In the office of Angel Investigations Wesley and Cordelia are getting concerned as Angel struggles to find his meaning in the scheme of things, as Angel starts to utter worrying words the moment is broken by the appearance of Lindsey asking for help... After some serious piss taking by Angel, Lindsey reveals why he has come to Angel and tells him about Vanessa's next job involving the children (is this a small inkling that Lindsey may have a decent side to him?) so they then plan on how to retrieve the files that will reveal where the children are so they can prevent Vanessa from carrying out her task. With the help of Gunn they take on the various security features of the Wolfram & Hart building. Lindsey moves to the main security station so he can switch channels on the appropriate monitors while in the sewers Angel cuts his way into the lower floor as Gunn arrives in the Lobby with a package. The Shaman squeals the presence of a vampire and Gunn releases the contents of the package and as the vampire wreaks havoc in the Lobby Angel moves towards the vault where he finds the demon guarding the vault. After a very brief struggle, Angel blows some pink dust that has been prepared by Wesley and the demon is rendered unconscious. In the vault Angel recovers the zip disks that contain the files, on his way out the vault Angel notices a container and takes it, which sets off an alarm and sends the team into a mild panic. Upstairs, Lindsey is caught up with a spontaneous sweep by the moderators. The two moderators slowly progress through the line up of staff and then after a hushed discussion, the boss walks over to Lindsey. After exposing the truth about Lee holding secret talks with Klein and Kapler he is summarily executed by Phil the security guard (used to have a job holding up liquor stores until Wolfram & Hart offered him a new position) and the rest of the staff are dismissed. Lindsey is asked to stay behind by Harland and explain why he helped Angel... Back at the bat cave the files brought back by Angel are decrypted with the help of a telephone call to Willow back in Sunnydale. They find that at the age of 21 Vanessa made herself blind while studying the Nan Jinn. They also find that the three children are seerers and pose a substantial threat to Wolfram & Hart. At the safehouse where the three children are being kept their watcher is killed by Vanessa (never trust anyone with a white stick again) but before she can kill the children Angel turns up with Lindsey and they rescue the children. Angel discovers how to beat Vanessa (based on him watching Jurassic Park and the bit where Sam tells Jeff about the visual acuity of a T Rex is based on movement) and after hitting her several times kills her with her own white stick... Back at the office, Wesley has translated some of the scroll and finds that Angel is mentioned in it and what will happen to him. At Wolfram & Hart, Harland offers Lindsey his old job... |

| An interesting ep in that it gives a bit of insight into the workings of
Wolfram & Hart. There are some good moments of humour and it was nice to see that the
production crew were not afraid of making someone disabled both nasty and dead (in the
end). It also shows how some people, when faced with a moral dilemma, are so greedy that
they choose power and wealth over what is right. Very much like my ex boss! Rating 8/10 |
